Goldschmidt Geochemistry Conference Talk

August 15, 2018

Dr. Maneiro attended the Goldschmidt Geochemistry Conference in Boston, Massachusetts to present a research talk, meet with colleagues, and support a coauthor. This year’s research talk included new garnet geochronology work that appears to be the oldest reliable garnet age measured globally to-date. Garnet from the Barberton Granite Greenstone belt is about 3.2 billion years old. These results will be included in a forthcoming peer-reviewed publication. You can read the abstract here.

Field Camp at the Wheaton Science Station in the Black Hills

July 2018

Dr. Maneiro spent the month of July at Wheaton College's Science Station in the Black Hills of South Dakota learning about the local geology and observing current field practices and exercises.  Planning is already underway for the field course for geology majors to be offered in June and July of 2020.  You can make plans to join us!  For more information on geology and general education courses available for Wheaton and non-Wheaton students in the Black Hills, visit the Science Station website.

Welcome to Wheaton!

July 1, 2018

Dr. Maneiro officially started as an Assistant Professor in the Geology and Environmental Science Department of Wheaton College (IL) on July 1, 2018.  She assumes responsibility for introductory and upper-level geology courses with a "hard rock" focus following the retirement of Dr. Jeffrey Greenberg.  Planning is also underway to establish a clean lab at Wheaton College that will allow for ongoing garnet geochronology research.   You can read more about the department's recent hires here or visit the Projects tab for more information on student and colleague research opportunities.
